I am an agile and determined business leader who isn’t afraid to take initiative and show courage. I strive for 360-degree vision: balancing technical skill with strategic thinking, and encouraging innovation whilst managing risk.

I hold considerable financial, operational and strategic management experience in Australia and in the UK. I am currently the CFO of Bulletproof Networks, the first company in Australia to launch a public cloud service in 2006 and launch a managed Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2012. Previous to this I was the Australian and NZ CFO and COO of Regus, the world’s largest provider of flexible workplaces.

Prior to Regus, I was CFO and Company Secretary of ASX listed Rubik Financial Ltd, where I steered significant growth, including a revenue increase of 157%, company share price increase of 300%, more than $100 million market capitalisation growth, and the acquisition and transition of three businesses.

In 2013, I was named CFO of the Year in the Thomson Reuters Tax & Accounting Excellence Awards, recognising my efforts in the 12 months prior at Rubik, including financial achievement; heightened quality of service; enterprise and added value; dedication; innovation and initiative; leadership qualities; and team development and management skills.

I am a proud member of the ACCA – the global body for professional accountants. I hold the vice chair position on the Australia/NZ Members Panel, representing members and aiding the direction of work required to support members’ needs. I am particularly passionate about assisting ACCA members who have recently migrated to Australia and I am also actively involved in the local ACCA Women In Business group.

I believe in conscious leadership, with a focus on collaboration, care and courage. My aim is to drive, inspire and empower others to think differently and add value

Colin Savory (Vice Chair)

Born in London, Colin spent his early career in manufacturing, financial services and investment banking in the UK before moving to Europe. Over the next seven years he worked mainly in France but also Switzerland, Italy and Austria and loved the challenges of new languages, cultures and people. ACCA as an education and a brand helped facilitate these moves between both industries and countries.

Working back in London, he met his wife and they decided to move to Australia, his ACCA qualification fulfilled the visa requirements and they now live in the wonderful city of Perth.
Having benefitted from membership of ACCA over the years, Colin is keen to enhance the recognition of ACCA in Australia, ultimately raising the profile with both employers and recruiters. Rather than study for a similar local accounting qualification, he has complemented ACCA with membership of The Tax Institute (ATI) and is a qualified Chartered Secretary (ACIS).

Having migrated to Australia he is fully aware of the challenges faced by new arrivals and is keen to promote the brand and improve services provided to members wherever possible. He is currently working for a Federal Government regulator in Perth as a Financial Accountant.

Joanne Freeman

Joanne is an Associate at Hall Chadwick Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors. Hall Chadwick has clients in every major capital city and many regional centres in Australia. Joanne joined Hall Chadwick’s Corporate Insolvency Division in 2008 having migrated from the UK. With fourteen years of experience in both the UK and Australian insolvency markets, Joanne deals with all types of corporate insolvency appointments both formal and informal. Joanne work has involved a broad range of industries, including information technology, property and retail as well as publicly listed companies.

Joanne has calm and methodical approach to insolvency allows her to deal with each engagement in a professional and courteous manner and enables her to achieve the best result for all stakeholders. Joanne become an ACCA ANZ Network Panel Member for NSW in 2014 and has been an active member of the panel in her first year. Joanne attends most the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants events and regularly engages with ACCA members on a one on one basis in order to provide feedback to ACCA ANZ office.

Joanne holds a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) from the University of Plymouth UK and is a Fellow of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Joanne is also an Associate Member of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association.

Thivaharan Thuraiappah

To paraphrase Nietzsche, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”, and Thiva is a living, breathing example of strength acquired from adversity. He spent his childhood and early youth in war-torn Sri Lanka, overcoming personal learning difficulties only to be stricken with cancer at the age of 24. He emerged from this trauma with only one eye, but as an undaunted survivor determined to test what the wider world had to offer. His career as a senior financial specialist has seen him leading transformational projects in Africa, Canada, New Zealand, and now in Australia. Showing businesses the path to growth is and always will be his primary objective.

Thiva was quick to realise that integrated cloud-based business systems were the way of the future, a key driver to facilitate progress and development. With this mind he founded LALI Business Consulting, providing leadership for organizations who want to transform their systems and process management.

On a more personal level, helping others to not only survive hardship, but also to grow from it, was Thiva’s motive in becoming an ambassador for the New South Wales Cancer Council. In addition to giving practical assistance with fundraising he is also a regular speaker at Cancer Council events.

Thiva enjoys spending time with his twin nieces, loves his Yoga mat, dance shoes and move his body to Latin music, reading books and learning new skills. So yes, Thiva has an unwavering focus on helping others to grow and transform both their business and personal lives. You could even call him one-eyed.

I am an experienced management consultant in Ernst & Young’s Advisory Services specialising in Finance and Performance Management. I am based in Melbourne, Australia following my move from the UK over five years ago.
My career over the last 8 years has been focused on helping the world’s leading organisations and governments find solutions to their most complex problems. My breadth of work experience across different countries, industries and my wide exposure and interaction with senior executives puts me in a unique position to add real value to the ACCA Australia & New Zealand Network Panel for 2015/17.

I worked as an Area Financial Controller, Assistant Group Accountant and Management Accountant for 6 years prior to joining his ‘Global Big 4’ Accountancy firm employer. I am passionate about the ACCA and if given the honour of serving you in the ACCA Australia & New Zealand Network Panel for 2015/17, my focus will be on driving initiatives to raise the profile of our No. 1 Global Accountancy brand world-wide; working to ensure our syllabus prepares our pipeline of future members for the changing role of accountants; and adequate CPD opportunities to help members harness emerging opportunities.

I have represented ACCA at numerous student engagements forums and events in Victoria and I have a good understanding of the issues new migrants with ACCA qualifications. I am passionate and able to mentor junior and new ACCA members and students.

Emma Hinchey

After a career spanning multiple industry sectors including Government, National Audit, Treasury, Energy and Commercial Parking, Emma immigrated to Adelaide from Dublin. After a short spell with local government, Emma turned her experienced hand to the not-for-profit sector.

Since early 2012, Emma has been delivering growth and sustainability in the disability sector. After 4 years as CFO of Minda, SA’s largest disability support provider, Emma has recently taken on the role of CEO of Community Support Incorporated (CSI). CSI is the largest provider of one-to-one individualised support in South Australia. Emma is leading the business reorientation of CSI towards success in the changed environment of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

During her career, Emma has delivered significant improvements in financial performance converting deficits to substantial surpluses and achieving exceptional growth in net assets. Emma has a wealth of experience developing and delivering ambitious financial and technology strategies, sustainability, service improvement and business growth.

Muhammad Rehan Badar

Rehan started his career in a professional services firm (PwC) in Pakistan before
moving to Middle East. Over the next six years he worked mainly in United Arab
Emirates but also in other countries in the Middle East and loved the challenges of new
language, culture and people.
In 2013, Rehan got an opportunity through the firm’s Global Mobility programme to
migrate to New Zealand and has called the coolest little capital aka Wellington his home
since then. ACCA as an education and a brand helped facilitate these moves between
the countries.

He was the “Top ACCA affiliate of Pakistan for the year 2004” and was
recognised at various ACCA award events. Rehan also holds full CA membership of
Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and the Institute of
Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Rehan is currently working for the Office of the Auditor General New Zealand as
Manager, Quality Assurance, Assurance and Accounting Policy.

Carolyn Ironside

Carolyn started her career in Auckland as an Office Junior. Originally travelling to London for 6 months to explore Europe, Carolyn stayed 12 years after discovering a fascination for history, nature and seeing different cultures.
Carolyn has held a variety of types of jobs between New Zealand, England and Scotland, until deciding management and accounting under ACCA was what she wanted to do. Carolyn achieved her ACCA membership in 2009. Having started at the “bottom” in the office, she has a wealth of experience in administration and organisational skills and a good understanding of different perspectives in a business environment.

Additionally Carolyn has worked in a variety of industries from retail to accommodation to infrastructure, with her last role being in London as Finance Manager for EleQtra (InfraCo Africa) a project management company specialising in private infrastructure in Africa where Carolyn was responsible for transitioning and implementing new accounting and management reporting systems. Prior to this Carolyn worked as a management accountant for UPP Residential Services in London where she was responsible for the implementation of new accounting systems and processes and financial reporting.

Carolyn is appreciative of what the ACCA brand has meant for her personally and professionally and would like to continue working with others to increase the recognition of ACCA brand in New Zealand. The ACCA study program is about the practical application of accounting for business and business performance, it is focused and useful and an ACCA member should be proud to have earned membership.

Currently Carolyn is enjoying time at home in Auckland, looking after her two small children and undertaking part time additional studies in accounting.
